What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure for your skin which uses thin needles to make tiny holes in the top layer of your skin. The damage helps stimulate your skin’s healing process, so it produces more collagen and elastin. These proteins keep your skin firm and smooth. Most people get microneedling on their face, but you can also get it on your legs, back, neck or other areas where you notice damaged or aging skin. You’ll probably need multiple treatments to achieve your desired results. We use the Eclipse MicroPen EVO skin needling system which is FDA and Health Canada Approved device which allows for controlled induction of the skin's self-repair mechanism by creating micro "injuries" in the skin which triggers new collagen synthesis. The result is smoother, firmer and younger looking skin. Skin needling procedures are performed in a safe and precise manner with the use of the sterile MicroPen needle head. The procedure is normally completed within 30-60 minutes including application of topical numbing for 30 minutes.

How is it performed?

Patient should arrive at the clinic with no make-up and face cleansed at home. Treatment areas will also be cleaned with cleanser prior to treatment and again with chlorhexidine. We apply either a Hyaluronic Acid serum, other Growth Factor Serum or PRP/PRF to the treatment area. A needling device is then moved over the skin creating superficial pinpoint injuries. The Hyaluronic Acid serum provides hydration for the skin. You may opt to use the Growth Factor Serum which uses stem cells to increase cell rejuvenation and collagen production or PRP /PRF which promote collagen growth.

Prior to treatment: We ask that you discontinue any Retinol product 3-7 days before the treatment. For PRP / PRF, you will be provided additional instructions for pre-treatment.

After the treatment:

After the procedure, the skin will be red and flushed in appearance similar to a moderate sunburn. You may also experience skin tightness and mild sensitivity to touch on the area being treated. The skin's redness will diminish greatly after a few hours following treatment and within the next 24 hours the skin will be generally calmed. After 3 days the skin will return to a normal or near normal appearance. We ask that you avoid sweaty exercise for the first 3 days. Avoid applying makeup or excessive sun exposure for the first 3 days. You will be instructed to use gentle skin care products such as Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser, CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion, and mineral-based sunscreen of SPF 30+ or products which our clinic may recommend. After 7 days you can resume your normal skincare regimen. We recommend that you use a Retinol and Vitamin C product daily after 7 days post microneedling to maintain your results.

How many treatments will I need?

We recommend an initial series of 3-6 treatments depends of the extend of acne scarring/wrinkles, spaced about a month apart. Most people will do repeat treatments about once a year for maintenance.
