Deoxycholic acid /Belkyra® is a naturally occurring molecule in the body, created by the liver, that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. How is Deoxycholic Acid / Belkyra® administered?

What are the common side effects?
Rare side effects include: difficulty swallowing due to swelling from double chin treatment, anxiety, vasovagal response, temporary hypertension (resolved within 24 hours), mandibular nerve injury for double chin treatment, skin infection, weakness in facial muscles. Common side effects include:

Are the results of the fat dissolving injection permanent?
Once the deoxycholic acid / Belkyra® injections destroy your fat cells, your body will not be able to replace them with new fat cells. Removal of fat is permanent. However, it is crucial to understand that it doesn’t mean that you won’t accumulate fat in the treated area ever again. Our fat dissolving treatments are most effective when combined with a healthy lifestyle including a nutritional diet and exercise.
Who is a good candidate for this treatment?
You have tried losing weight with exercise and diet but still struggle with the stubborn fat stored in certain areas. If you have only mild to moderate skin laxity then you would be a good candidate for this treatment. If you have severe laxity, you may not be a good candidate as this would cause more sagging when the fat is permanently destroyed.
Who is not a good candidate for this treatment?
If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have open sores in the treatment areas.

How many treatments will I need?
Most patients will need 2-6 treatments to see full results and treatments are done every 4-6 weeks apart. You may start to notice early results after just 1 treatment session. The number of sessions required would depend on how much fat tissue and density is present in the area. The fat cells are permanently destroyed, so once you reach your aesthetic goal no additional treatment is required.
How fast will I see results?
You would not see the results immediately, you can typically begin to see results after 4-6 weeks. Your body will take some time to drain and remove fat cells from the lymphatic system.
What should I keep in mind after treatment?
Following a treatment it is completely normal to experience swelling, minor tenderness and bruising around the treated area. We recommend following a healthy diet and drinking 2-3 litres of water per day throughout the course of treatment
